EHP DELIVERS NONSTOP, COMMUNITY-DRIVE CONTENT

East Harlem Preservation, Inc. (EHP) is a volunteer-driven, non-commercial, 501(c)3 advocacy organization founded in 2005 to promote and preserve the neighborhood’s history and diversity. EHP works to empower low-income and working families in East Harlem/El Barrio and surrounding areas by providing free and unfiltered local news and information about local programs and upcoming events through our popular social media accounts, website, and email alerts. Click here to learn more about our programs and services.

EHP is led by community activists, educators, and artists who live and/or work in East Harlem and been involved in many local issues. Our website and social media resources are available to residents and community partners as free platforms for self- and collective expression and empowerment.

EHP often collaborates with and lends resources to local, national and international activists and artists working to challenge policies and practices that negatively impact their neighborhoods and who advocate for the development of sound, community-based alternatives. Our members also conduct neighborhood tours and organize media and educational campaigns and regularly engage in community empowerment actions involving affordable housing; social and environmental justice; land-marking; and government transparency. PUBLIC RECOGNITION

In 2015, HDC selected East Harlem as one of the organization’s “Six to Celebrate” neighborhoods, and East Harlem Preservation was invited to serve as the local partner in the initiative. HDC provided strategic resources to support our goal to showcase and preserve our neighborhood’s “buildings as canvases” tradition of outdoor murals and mosaic. EHP then partnered with community artists Natalie del Villar, Marthalicia Matarrita, and Xen Medina to re-imagine the East 107th Street mural of Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar López Rivera.

In 2009, East Harlem Preservation received a “New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods” award from the Citizens Committee for New York City for our environmental awareness efforts.
